A brief history Who benefits Happenings Trustees
Jumpers for Goalposts
Throughout the years, the Coombe Trust has moved forward in many areas. Through our new initiative “Jumpers for Goalposts”,
I guess you could say we are taking a step back.

In our opinion, the ‘art of play’ has all but disappeared. My own young children look at me as if I come from another planet when I suggest “British bulldog” or “conkers” and even “hide and seek” gets looks of derision. A huge percentage of under 14’s are overweight and many clinically obese.

Our goal then is to encourage outdoor pursuits by getting back to our very core roots, Scouting. The Scout Association is divesting itself of most of its UK camp-sites,
leaving just a few centres of excellence.

Our aim is to purchase one such site, Frylands Wood (camp-site home of Lewisham Manor Scouts) and lease it back to Lewisham Manor at a peppercorn rent. The future of camping and outdoor
pursuits for youngsters in South London would then be guaranteed.

Through our “Jumpers for Goalposts” project we hope to be able to send some of our less fortunate boys and girls on camping trips under the guidance of established Scout Troops.

Our mission is to get them out of the tower blocks, off their sofas away from TV, thus promoting life skills. Potentially future Scouts and productive members of society will be in the making. This costly
project currently is at discussion level.

Hopefully in our more frequent newsletters
and updates you will see it develop in the
coming months and years.
